July 27, 2008 - Team Autoxrs Headquarters
The team carried the momentum from the strong finish at Cumberland the day before to record another 1-2 class finish at the Steel Cities Region Points Event 7 held at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex. This marked the team's sixth 1-2 finish of the season.
Roy also finished an impressive 15th in the PAX standings while Sean finished in 27th place. Despite missing 3 events Roy is currently 49th out of 195 drivers in the Driver of the year standings with Sean not far behind in 52nd place. Both drivers will move up a bunch of spots as they complete their 6 required events.
Sean's first run was a nice and clean 44.609 second run, Roy responded with a 44.668 second time. Sean's second run while smoother did not improve as he stopped the clock with a 45.039. Roy's next run was a fast 44.201 second time as he held a 0.4 second advantage with one run remaining in the morning. The team evaluated the surface temperatures and realized that cooling the rear tires down was causing problems as the tires simply weren't coming up to temperate. The decision was made to run the last run without spraying down the tires. Sean instantly responded with a 43.969 second time to vault into the class lead, but Roy shattered that with a 41.979 second time. The morning session was impressive as the team kept pace with the STS and STX drivers.
Following a long second work heat marred by an oil spill and ensuing cleanup the team headed to their grid spots for their final runs. Sean again would be first car out as he stopped the clock with a 43.818 second time. Roy responded by lowering his fast time by a 1/10th as he dropped to a 41.835. Sean's fifth run was his best as he dropped to a 43.034 and closed down to gap to just over a second. Roy's fifth run started promising, but a miscue in the entry to second slalom meant he had to settle for a 43.457 second time. Sean's final run started with a mechanical blunder as he car dropped out of second gear shortly after the start, with nothing to gain on the run Sean followed the lines and came in with a 43.527 second run. Roy's last run looked to be a low 41 second run, but yet another blunder on the slalom entry along with a cone meant he did no better as he finished up with a 43.756+1 for his last run.
As the team began packing up they evaluated the weekend, "The car keeps getting better and our decision to go softer on the shocks has proved to be the correct choice." commented car owner Sean after the event. The team will prepare the car for an SCCA time trial to be held at BeaveRun's Wilson Circuit on August 10th.
The team would once again like to thank Mark Connolly and everyone at McB Autosport for their continued support of the team. We'd also like to acknowledge the support provided by Jon Kofod/Team Flatoutracing and Curry's Auto Service.
