Date of Birth: 4-1-1981 in Dublin, Ireland Occupation: Student/Web Developer Hobbies: Collecting LEGO, tennis, soccer Favorite Racer: Ayrton Senna (RIP)
From 2001 - 2003 Sean worked as part of the West Virginia University Formula Lightning team performing electronics and fiberglass work. With the series slowly fading out it was time to drop the wrenches and pick up the steering wheel.
Sean started his Solo career in late 2004, competing in the SCCA HS class with his 1994 Honda Accord EX street car. Despite having a non-competitive car, he fared well enough to finish Runner Up in the 2005 Southern WV Region of the SCCA Solo championship with one win. In the Steel Cities Region of the SCCA Sean accumulated enough points to take the class win, but did not have enough events to garner a title. Towards the tail end of 2005 the team purchased a 1988 Honda CRX Si to replace the Accord as a Solo car.
2006 brought forth a hectic season of racing, Sean competed in 40 events in various regions including Steel Cities, Southern WV and Cumberland. In the Steel Cities Region Sean competed in the very competitive Street Tire Challenge class and ended the season 4th overall, a podium place was in store but he chose to run the season finale with the Grassroots Challenge CRX and hence did not accumulate any points in the Street Tire Challenge Class. In the Southern WV Region Sean went on to record 5 consecutive wins and a third place to seal the title. While the CRX was competitive in GS it simply could not match the newer cars in the class. At the end of the season the team decided to convert the car to STS2 trim for 2007. In the process of converting the car it became evident that the motor would need a full rebuild. The decision was made to retire the CRX and instead transfer the parts over to the Grassroots Challenge CRX.
2007 brought forth new challenges, with academics and work taking a front seat Sean had to forego many events and failed to complete a full season in any region. Despite this he finished first overall in STS2 in the Steel Cities Region with 3 wins and 2 third place finishes. 2007 also brought forth the first trip to a National tour and the SCCA Solo Nationals presented by TireRack. At Peru he ran in STS2, while at Nationals he rented a ride in Philip Fitzmaurice's STS Integra and ran in the STX class.
Plans for 2008 include making a full conversion to STS2 trim and running a full season with Steel Cities and North Hills. A partial season will be run with Southern WV and the Cumberland regions. Current National Tours on the schedule are Peru, DC Pro, Toledo Pro and Atlanta as well as the SCCA Nationals in September.
When not autoxing Sean serves as crew chief and web developer for Jon Kofod and the Flatoutracing team in the Mid Atlantic Road Racing Series. Sean is currently a graduate student at West Virginia University pursuing a degree in Computer Science through the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Sean graduated from West Virginia University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science in Computer Science in 2006.
